How long does HIV take to become AIDS?

Without proper drug treatment, HIV usually progresses to become AIDS in an average of ten years. This average, though, is based on a person having a regular & reasonable hygienic diet. Someone living in a resource-poor area might not be adequately nourished, consequent to which, that person may well progress to AIDS and reach death much more fast than the normal or an average person as explained above.

HIV antiretroviral medication can prolong the time between HIV infection and the onset of AIDS. Medicinal Researches in this regard are continuously being undertaken by various agencies in various countries & new medicinal drugs are being developed, and theoretically, someone with HIV can live for a long time before it becomes AIDS. These medicines, however, are not available in many poor and underdeveloped countries around the world, and millions of people who cannot meet the expense of this medication or to put it in other words do not have access to these medication, continue to die
